A global technical glitch that disrupted airports, hospitals, media outlets, and banks worldwide on Friday resulted in an estimated $76 billion loss.
Walid Hajjaj, an information security expert, provided insights into the incident during an interview with TV host Ahmed Moussa on the "On My Responsibility" program aired on Sada El-Balad channel.
Hajjaj explained that the disruption was caused by a technical issue rather than a cyberattack or hacking attempt.
The glitch was traced back to a vulnerability in a software update from a major company, not a deliberate cyber assault.
"The technical glitch that impacted the world yesterday was not the first of its kind," Hajjaj noted. "Similar disruptions have occurred multiple times over the past few years."
He emphasized that non-technology-manufacturing countries lack control over such incidents, highlighting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's repeated calls for learning programming.
Hajjaj also pointed out that 85% of technical failures and breaches are due to human error. He warned against clicking on unknown links or even displaying browser content without interaction, as these actions could lead to devices being compromised.
