The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter and owned by Elon Musk, experienced a major worldwide outage on Saturday, affecting tens of thousands of users across multiple countries.

Reports of the outage surged rapidly, according to Downdetector, a service that monitors online platform disruptions. In the United States alone, over 25,000 users reported being unable to access the platform properly.

Many users faced difficulties loading new posts and navigating the app due to persistent error messages.

This marks the second significant technical failure for X in 2025. A previous outage in March caused a temporary shutdown of user interactions and messaging features, raising ongoing concerns about the platform's technical stability.

The outage occurred at a crucial time for the company. Since Elon Musk acquired the platform in October 2022 for $44 billion, X has undergone massive changes, including a reduction of nearly 80 percent of its workforce.

The sharp downsizing has raised questions about the platform’s ability to maintain reliable service levels.
