International reactions were mixed to the Israeli occupation state's killing of a large number of journalists yesterday in an attack on the Nasser Medical Complex, more than 670 days after the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Germany, Israel's biggest supporter in Europe, was shocked by the event
The German Foreign Ministry issued a statement today condemning the killing of journalists in Gaza, describing it as “shocking.” The statement said: “We express our shock at the killing of a number of journalists, rescue workers, and other civilians in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.” The Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Gaza must be investigated. We have repeatedly called on the Israeli government to grant journalists access and provide them with protection in Gaza," the German ambassador to Israel said, while stating that his country was horrified by the killing of journalists, paramedics, and civilians in an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital.
Comment from the International Federation of Journalists
The International Federation of Journalists condemned the killing of journalists in Gaza, stating in its statement that it strongly condemns the latest war crime committed by Israel, adding: "So far, we have recorded the killing of at least 217 Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces since the beginning of the war."
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares commented that Israel's attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip and the killing of journalists there constituted a serious violation of international law, according to the official Spanish news agency on Monday.
Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stressed that Israel must ensure the safety of journalists in Gaza, following the killing of four journalists in an Israeli military airstrike on a hospital in Khan Yunis.
"Regarding the media in Gaza, we have already agreed to a document with several other countries. Our position on press freedom remains unchanged," Tajani said, according to the Italian news agency ANSA.
He added, "We believe it is right to ensure the safety of journalists, and it is right that journalists also be able to do their work in the Gaza Strip."
