The Central Department of Zoos of the General Authority for Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture announced that Giza Zoo will receive 3 new giraffes from South Africa on December 1, 2020, including 2 females and a male.

The department confirmed that the shipment was delayed due to  the import procedures. The giraffes are imported according to international requirements. They are imported, through exchange programs for endangered animals, to solve the overcrowding or deficit problems in some wild animals.

Giza Zoo has finished equipping a new house for giraffes on an area of more than 2 acres. It is one of the most welcoming places for visitors, with the latest design in accordance with international requirements.

The house of giraffes is loved by children, due to the characteristics of giraffes that are popular with children.

Among the most prominent characteristics of giraffes are their neck and long legs, and the bony protrusions on their head that are similar to the horns. There are nine species of giraffes and they are spread in Chad, South Africa, Niger, and Somalia.

The Giza Zoo administration begins preparing the single female giraffe "Sawsan" in her house for the male giraffes coming from South Africa to mate with it.

In 2020, the zoo had received 3 giraffes from South Africa, after 5 years in which the giraffes were completely absent from Egypt. The administration of the zoo allocated 2,100 square meters to them, to suit their size and movement, and to match international standards for zoos.
