Tonight, the 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) at the Cairo Opera House. CIFF is considered the earliest international film festival in the region and one of the oldest globally.
The festival will initiate its activities after the opening ceremony with the screening of "The Father."
CIFF President Mohamed Hefzy stressed in the press conference the festival that "The Father" is one of the most important films released this year.
Directed by Florian Zeller, the film revolves around an old man who starts losing control. He is no longer capable of controlling his life or thinking.
He refuses to ask to have any help from other persons inside his circle including his daughter and becomes prey for his memory-loss.

Based on a successful play, "Zeller’s film is one of the more impressively realized stage-to-screen adaptations of late. There are constant tweaks made to his apartment from the decor to the layout and we begin to question everything along with him, always wondering what the real truth might be," according to The Guardian.
The film is starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. It gained huge acclamation from critics around the world.
The 42nd edition of CIFF will take place between 2 and 10 December. This edition will witness the participation of 84 films including 10 Egyptian films.
