It appears that Prince William may have let down his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, just a few months before her passing.

Throughout her life, the late Queen Elizabeth II was devoted to serving her country. She held an unshakable belief that duty must always come first, a principle that not only defined her reign but also guided her personal life, according to The Daily Express.

However, it seems that the Queen began to worry her grandson, the future King, might not fully share that same sense of duty.

Royal author Robert Jobson reveals in his upcoming book, The Legacy of Windsor, that the Queen was “frustrated” by Prince William’s modern view of royal responsibility.

According to The Daily Mail, Jobson recounts one of Queen Elizabeth’s final public engagements, held just eight weeks before her death.

In July 2022, Queen Elizabeth, then 96 years old, was scheduled to attend the official opening of Thames Hospice, a new 29-bed care facility in Bray Lake, Berkshire.

The center offers specialized end-of-life care for adults with chronic illnesses.

During her visit, the Queen toured the facility, met with staff, volunteers, and patients, and unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the occasion.

This engagement was reportedly close to her heart, yet she was said to be “too frail” that day. The Queen therefore asked Prince William to attend on her behalf.

However, Jobson writes that William declined, citing fatherhood duties as his reason for being unable to attend.

“The Queen felt not only disappointed but also rather irritated,” Jobson claims. “At that moment, she was said to have remarked, ‘Isn’t that what nannies are for?’”

Despite her poor health, Queen Elizabeth prioritized her responsibilities to her people and attended the event in person, accompanied instead by Princess Anne.

That visit would turn out to be the Queen’s final public engagement in England, before her death in Scotland on September 8, 2022.

Even in her last months, Queen Elizabeth’s unwavering commitment to duty stood in contrast to the evolving family dynamics of the modern monarchy, a reminder of how her sense of obligation defined not only her reign but also her legacy.
