On Saturday, security forces found a family of five members trapped alive inside the rubble of the collapsed 12-storey building at the Gesr el Suez area in Cairo.

Local reports indicated that the family was taken into hospital in order to get the proper treatment.

So far, 14 people have been rescued from the bottom of the collapsed property, but 8 died in the serious incident.

The multi-storey buildin on El-Kersh Street, off Gamal Abdel Nasser Street, in Gesr el Suez collapsed in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Residents circulated videos of the property as it collapsed, crying out for help to get the residents out of the rubble, as they demanded the ambulances be called quickly.

Eyewitnesses said that the property contained a number of residents, including children, and appealed to the civil protection authorities to quickly extract them from under the rubble in an attempt to rescue them.

“There was an explosion in the cheese factory at the bottom of the property, which caused a major shake, that the residents of the district felt, which led to the collapse,” an eye witness said.
