Germany is preparing to withdraw its Patriot air defense systems and around 200 Bundeswehr soldiers from Poland, according to Germany’s NTV channel, which cited the German Air Force.
The systems have been stationed near Rzeszów Airport, a key logistics hub close to the Ukrainian border.
The report stated that on Wednesday, after nearly a year of deployment, NATO’s air defense mission was formally transferred to the Dutch armed forces as originally planned.
The German contingent’s primary objective had been to protect the Rzeszów transport centre, a major route for military and humanitarian shipments heading toward Ukraine.
Berlin deployed two Patriot units to the site, designed to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and both manned and unmanned aircraft.
