German health authorities announced the detection of two cases of monkeypox in the capital, Berlin.

On Thursday, the French Ministry of Health announced the detection of the first suspected case of monkeypox virus in the Paris/Ile-de-France region, amid indications that the virus is spreading around the world.

Noteworthy, Sweden has reported its first monkeypox case, after the UK, Spain, Portugal, the United States and Canada reported infections.

Italy has also reported a case, in a young adult who had recently returned from the Canary Islands.

The monkeypox virus causes symptoms of fever and a distinctive bumpy rash. It is usually mild, but there are two main strains of it, one of which is the Congo strain, which is the most dangerous, with a mortality of up to 10 percent, and the West African strain with a mortality rate of about 1 percent of cases.
