Germany is expected to face new travel disruptions next week, as the German labor union Verdi calls for a one-day warning strike for employees at the airline Lufthansa, according to Bloomberg.
The strike, which will begin early Tuesday morning and end Wednesday, will affect Lufthansa's hubs in Frankfurt and Munich, as well as other German airports.
The union said in an email statement on Sunday that there will likely be significant cancellations and delays of flights.
According to Bloomberg, baggage handlers, cargo staff and other ground crews went on strike earlier this month, causing Lufthansa to cancel between 80% and 90% of scheduled flights.
The Verdi workers' union said that the latest action comes after no agreement was reached in negotiations with Lufthansa on February 12, adding that employees felt "ignored" by the airline's previous proposals.
The union is demanding a wage increase of 12.5%, or at least 500 euros ($539) per month over 12 months, plus an additional inflation bonus of 3,000 euros for Lufthansa crew members working on the ground.
The next round of negotiations between Verdi and Lufthansa is scheduled to be held next Wednesday, the day after the expected strike.
