Germany has urged Israel to launch an investigation into the destruction of a watchtower belonging to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon. The call came on Monday following reports that an Israeli military bulldozer deliberately targeted the UN structure.
A spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry expressed Berlin’s concern, stating, “According to UNIFIL, an Israeli bulldozer deliberately demolished a watchtower and fence at a UNIFIL site, which raises serious concern for Germany.”
The United Nations had confirmed on Sunday that the Israeli bulldozer had intentionally destroyed a wall and watchtower at the peacekeeping force’s site in southern Lebanon.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from international and UN officials, particularly amid escalating tensions and ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants in the region. Concerns have been growing over repeated incidents involving Israeli forces targeting UNIFIL personnel and facilities in recent days.
