German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer tested positive for COVID-19, his spokesman announced on Monday.
The 71-year-old minister is isolating at home and is not yet experiencing any symptoms, news agency dpa reported. The CSU party member received one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine last month.
Seehofer is the latest member of Chancellor Anglea Merkel's Cabinet to test positive for the deadly virus, after Health Minister Jens Spahn contracted the COVID-19 in October last year.
Meanwhile, Germany confirmed 6,922 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 3,527,251, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday. The reported death toll rose by 54 to 84,829, according to the tally.
