On Thursday, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said,"A member of our embassy in Beirut has been killed in the aftermath of the explosion in her home,” adding, “All employees of the Federal Foreign Office are deeply saddened by their colleague.”

The catastrophic explosion in Beirut killed at least 137 people and thousands injured.

In a statement, he had expressed his condolences to the relatives and staff of the Beirut embassy, expressing his gratitude to all colleagues and the Federal Government who are bearing great personal risks around the world every day in serving their country.

The massive detonation in Beirut’s port killed more than 130 people on Tuesday, injuring around 5,000. Rescue workers expect the number of victims to continue to rise. The explosion destroyed large parts of the port and surrounding areas.

It is worth mentioning that, the explosion comes just two days before the international tribunal investigating the killing of former Prime Minister Rafik El-Hariri, in 2005, is set to announce its decision.

The huge explosion was caused by a large blaze that erupted at a warehouse in Beirut Port, which contained firecrackers, according to primary information.
