German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Israel to abandon any plans to annex territories in the West Bank.
Speaking during his visit to Jordan, Merz stated, "We must preserve the path toward a Palestinian state. Therefore, there can be no steps to annex territories in the West Bank."
Moreover, he clarified that this includes "any symbolic or political steps, construction operations, or any other measures to annex the area."
Furthermore, Merz affirmed his commitment to the two-state solution in the Middle East.
It is worth mentioning that, Merz had previously held a phone call with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he affirmed his support for US President Donald Trump’s plan for resolving the conflict in the Middle East, while calling on the Palestinian Authority to carry out the necessary reforms.
