German Chancellor Olaf Scholz firmly rejected former U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to relocate Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to other countries in the region.

During an election campaign event on Friday, Scholz stated, as reported by the German network Deutsche Welle: "I completely reject what Trump has proposed. The residents of Gaza should not be relocated."

The German Chancellor emphasized the importance of preventing further escalation in the Middle East and working towards peaceful coexistence between a future Palestinian state and Israel.

Trump had previously suggested, during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on February 4, that the U.S. was considering long-term administration of Gaza to support its development and promote peace in the region.

He also proposed resettling Palestinians from Gaza in other countries that could fund the process, adding that the U.S. was willing to send troops to Gaza if necessary.
