On Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the site of the fatal car attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, leaving at least 13 killed, and 68 injured.
Scholz was accompanied by numerous national and regional politicians. They laid flowers outside the main church of the site.
Residents also left candles, flowers and children's toys at the Johanneskirche church, where a memorial service will take place.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser recently called for vigilance at Christmas markets, adding that authorities didn't receive any threats.
In the same context, police arrested a 50-year-old Saudi doctor of psychiatry at the scene as a suspect.
