German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 15 to calm tensions between NATO and Russia.

In a press conference in Berlin, a government spokesman affirmed that Scholz will travel to Kyiv and Moscow on February 14 and 15 amid Ukraine-Russia crisis.

The spokesman said that it’s currently not yet possible to offer “details on the itinerary,” nor to “anticipate the content of the talks” between the two leaders.

In the same vein, French President Emmanuel Macron is set to meet Putin in Moscow on Feb. 7 and the leader of Ukraine on Feb. 8 to discuss the Ukraine situation.

Macron’s office announced in a statement that he would meet Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev a day after his meeting with Putin as Western world leaders try and avoid a major conflict with Russia over Ukraine.

The statement noted that Macron held separate phone calls with the Russian and Ukrainian leaders on Thursday in order to make progress on the status of the Donbass region as part of efforts to defuse tensions.
