German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed concern on Sunday about the risk of a regional war in the Middle East, calling for a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip during a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to German government spokesperson Wolfgang Büchner, as reported by the German news outlet Deutsche Welle, Scholz conveyed Berlin's condemnation of threats from Iran, Hezbollah, and other entities against Israel's security.
The German Chancellor emphasized the need to break the "destructive cycle of retaliatory violence," reduce tensions, and work constructively towards de-escalation.
