German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on Wednesday for a two-day official visit, marking his first trip to the country since taking office.
China Global Television Network (CGTN) reported in its English-language broadcast that during the visit, Merz is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.
The leaders are expected to exchange views on bilateral relations between the two nations and discuss various issues of mutual concern.
Ahead of the visit, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on Tuesday that cooperation between China and Germany has delivered tangible benefits to the people of both countries. She emphasized that Beijing attaches great importance to its strategic trade and economic ties with Berlin.
