Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry and his Sudanese counterpart Mariam Sadiq al-Mahdi expressed their categorical rejection of Ethiopia's decision to start the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) reservoir.
This came during their meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) session on the GERD crisis, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez.
They confirmed that this measure represents an explicit and serious breach of 'the Declaration of Principles Agreement' signed between the three countries in 2015, as well as a violation of international laws and norms.
Moreover, both ministers agreed to maintain intensive contacts and consultations with the UNSC member states to urge them to support Egypt and Sudan's position and their call to reach a legally binding agreement on the filling and operation of the GERD, taking into account the interests of the three countries.
It is worth mentioning that, Shoukry headed to New York last Sunday, ahead of the scheduled session of the UNSC.
The session, which will be held on Thursday upon the request of Egypt and Sudan, is set to address the issue of the GERD crisis.
