On Sunday, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed the decision of U.S. President Joe Biden to appoint a special envoy to Yemen.
In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf said that this move is a" positive addition to regional and international efforts to reach the political solution sought by the council, in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and Security Council Resolution 2216."
Moreover, Al-Hajraf highlighted the U.S.'s key role and its efforts to end Yemeni crisis, praising the wisdom, capabilities, and experience of the new envoy in the region.
Last week, Biden named veteran US diplomat Timothy Lenderking as the US special envoy for Yemen in a bid to step up American diplomacy “to end the war in Yemen.”
