The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations have shown their support for Sudan and reaffirmed their commitment to monitoring any changes to the situation there.

The GCC nations reaffirmed their interest in following and concern for the developments of the situation in Sudan and reiterated their complete sympathy with it in light of the extraordinary conditions it is now experiencing. To restore political stability, economic recovery, and prosperity for the people of Sudan and the nation at large, the GCC countries urge moderation, patience, and a focus on peaceful discussion.

This was said in a speech made before the 36th special session on the situation of human rights in Sudan by Counsellor Fahd Sulaiman Al Kharusi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations and international institutions in Geneva, on behalf of the GCC nations.

Counsellor Fahd Al Kharusi stated that the GCC countries welcomed the initial discussions taking place in Jeddah within the framework of the initiative led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United States of America (USA). This initiative resulted from international solidarity and unceasing efforts with partners from the Quartet countries, partners from the tripartite mechanism, and partners from the IGAD, and it aims to reach a truce and cease-fire and facilitate the arrival of international humanitarian aid.

Al Kharusi emphasised that the GCC nations reiterate the significance of maintaining the unity of the state and its institutions and helping Sudan fulfil the ambitions of its brethren. The need to affirm and uphold the principles of respect for Sudan's national sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence, ownership of the political process, and respect for its vision in this regard, as well as the call for the international community to encourage dialogue and send messages that help achieve political consensus among all parties and enhance stability during this transitional period.

Counsellor Fahd Al Kharusi reaffirmed the GCC nations' ongoing support for Sudan, including their humanitarian and relief contributions and their facilitation of evacuations. He also praised other nations' and international organisations' contributions to urgently needed humanitarian aid in this context.

The GCC nations urged stepping up efforts to deliver more urgent humanitarian and medical aid to fulfil the needs of the Sudanese people and stop the humanitarian situation from getting worse.

Counsellor Fahd Al Kharusi brought up the GCC nations' focus on the need for the Office of the High Commissioner to offer all types of technical assistance to the authorities charged with promoting human rights in Sudan as he concluded his remarks.
