Humanitarian concerns are mounting inside the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing war and the continued closure of crossings on the Palestinian side, with growing warnings over the collapse of the healthcare system due to severe shortages of medical and essential supplies.
According to the latest update from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, around 25 of the Strip’s 34 oxygen plants have been destroyed since October 2023, threatening the lives of thousands of wounded patients and critically ill civilians who depend on life-saving medical equipment.
Officials warned that the destruction of oxygen infrastructure could trigger a new humanitarian catastrophe, describing the situation as a “slow execution” of the wounded, injured, and sick across Gaza as hospitals struggle to maintain even the most basic services.
The worsening shortages have placed immense pressure on hospitals and vital facilities throughout the enclave, where medical teams continue operating under extremely difficult conditions amid damaged infrastructure and limited resources.
Meanwhile, Egypt has continued to facilitate medical support efforts through the Rafah border crossing on the Egyptian side since the beginning of the crisis. In the early hours of the morning, a number of Palestinian patients and injured individuals who had received treatment in hospitals across eight Egyptian governorates were allowed to return to the Gaza Strip after completing their medical care.
At the same time, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) announced the dispatch of its 196th “Zad Al-Izza” aid convoy carrying humanitarian assistance to Gaza. The convoy included food baskets, flour, medical supplies, clothing, mattresses, and tents intended to support displaced families and residents affected by the ongoing conflict.
Humanitarian organizations continue to warn that without sustained access to aid and medical supplies, conditions inside Gaza could deteriorate further in the coming weeks.
