Bill Gates has canceled his scheduled keynote address at the Impact of Artificial Intelligence Summit in India just hours before he was set to speak, according to reports.

The Microsoft co-founder had been expected to address a high-profile audience that included French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian business leader Mukesh Ambani. Gates’ foundation said the decision was made so he could focus on key priorities related to the event.

The abrupt withdrawal came less than 48 hours after the foundation confirmed that Gates would attend and deliver his remarks as planned, prompting questions about the sudden change.

The cancellation coincides with renewed public attention surrounding newly released files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The documents have revived scrutiny over Gates’ past interactions with Epstein. Gates has previously expressed regret over meetings with the disgraced financier, whose criminal case and associations with prominent figures continue to draw global attention.

Past investigations revealed that Epstein allegedly attempted to pressure Gates over a personal relationship involving a Russian bridge player, further intensifying media coverage.

Gates, 70, traveled to India this week, where his philanthropic organization is working with the Indian government on artificial intelligence projects aimed at social development. He had been listed as a featured speaker immediately following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While the Gates Foundation did not directly reference the Epstein controversy in its statement, analysts suggest the decision to withdraw may be linked to mounting media and legal scrutiny surrounding the ongoing revelations.

The incident adds a new dimension to global discussions on artificial intelligence leadership and high profile accountability, as technology summits increasingly intersect with broader political and reputational considerations.
