Gareth Bale has dashed any hope of a return to Wales after appearing to confirm a transfer to Los Angeles FC this summer.
The Welsh wizard became a free agent after his contract at Real Madrid expired following nine years in the Spanish capital. Speculation grew over his next move after leading his country to World Cup glory ahead of the Qatar competition this winter.
After insisting that he would not retire, a number of clubs were being touted as potential next destinations with the forward desperate to lead his nation at their first World Cup in 64 years - which will be their second-ever appearance at the tournament.
The likes of Tottenham, Southampton and Newcastle had been mentioned as possible locations in the Premier League but the surprising favourites for his signature were Cardiff with chairman Mehmet Dalman flying in especially to try and arrange an audacious transfer.
However, Bale looks set to have dashed any hope of a return to his homeland by agreeing a deal to sign for Los Angeles FC. The 32-year-old tweeted a video draped in the club's kit accompanied with a cap, saying: "See you soon, Los Angeles."
