French government spokesman Gabriel Attal stressed on Tuesday that France will continue to supply Ukraine with defensive weapons and humanitarian aid.

"Following the Russian attacks in Donbass on Monday, France will closely follow the situation in Ukraine," the spokesman told CNews broadcaster.

"We will continue to take all beneficial initiatives to end the war in Ukraine," he continued.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron considered his policy of maintaining dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘correct‘.

“I consider it absolutely right to speak constantly with the President of Russia on behalf of France,” Macron said in an interview to TF1 channel.

According to him, this is “necessary for building a new security architecture in Europe”.

The French President stressed that Polish Prime Minister (PM) Mateusz Morawiecki’s criticism of the French policy of dialogue with Russia is ‘baseless and outrageous.

“However, I was not surprised as Morawiecki is meddling with the French election campaign,” Macron said.

“I have always been open to negotiations with Russia,” he added, noting that the current talks with Putin are devoted to the situation in Ukraine and the ceasefire.
