Gabr Celebrates SCMR Presidency with Makram Mohamed Ahmed

Karam Gabr, the new head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) visited the former head of the council Makram Mohamed Ahmed at his home on Wednesday.

Gabr affirmed that the council, after its new formation, starts its work by celebrating Ahmed in a manner befitting his history and prestigious position in the world of press and media, and in recognition of its great role in serving public freedom issues and standing in the back of the Egyptian state, as strong advocate of its issues and challenges.

Gabr said in a statement, on Wednesday, that he visited Ahmed at his home and thanked him for his great role in the council during his term, and his exceptional efforts that did not stop for one moment, and asked him for support through advice, opinion and experience.

On his part, Ahmed affirmed his congratulations and gratitude, pointing out that he performed his duty earnestly, and wished the new president of the council and the new members success, stressing that he would exert effort in providing them with experience, in order to complete the path that he successfully led.

On Wednesday, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi issued new decisions to restructure the media bodies. Sisi issued Republican Decree No. 363 of 2020 to form the Supreme Council for Media Regulation headed by prominent journalist and writer Gabr. The presidency or membership of the aforementioned council should be 4 years.

The Official Gazette published the decisions, which replaced the former Supreme Council for the Regulation of Media, Makram Mohamed Ahmed, with the former head of the National Press Authority, Karam Gabr, who held his previous position, Abdel Sadiq Al-Shorbagy.

TV host Nashaat Al-Daihi joined the formation of the SCMR, and news anchor Reham Al-Sahli was also appointed in the formation of the National Media Authority.
