The Grand Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, and the Giza Pyramids area warmly welcomed His Excellency Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the Transitional President of the Gabonese Republic, along with his accompanying delegation, during their official visit to Egypt.
President Oligui and his delegation began their tour at the Grand Egyptian Museum, exploring the outdoor area featuring the suspended obelisk, the main hall, and the grand staircase leading to the museum's main exhibition galleries. These galleries, numbering 12 in total, showcase the history of ancient Egyptian civilization, from the early dynastic periods to the Greco-Roman era. The Gabonese president expressed his deep admiration for the museum, praising its exceptional display style, which not only highlights the beauty of the artifacts but also offers visitors an enriching experience of Egypt's ancient civilization. He particularly appreciated the informative explanatory cards, which provide valuable insights into the artifacts and cater to visitors of all ages. At the conclusion of the visit, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, the Executive Director of the museum, presented President Oligui with a commemorative gift.
During his visit to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, President Oligui toured the main exhibition halls, the royal mummies, and the Egyptian textiles section. He commended the museum’s vast collection, referring to the artifacts as treasures that underscore Egypt’s cultural prominence and reveal the evolution of Egyptian life and heritage across different historical periods. He especially praised the display of the royal mummies, describing it as a standout feature of the museum. The president also left a message in the museum’s guestbook, expressing his appreciation for the warm hospitality and his admiration for Egypt's rich cultural heritage. To commemorate the occasion, Dr. Taha Abbas, the Executive Director of the Museum Authority, presented President Oligui with a special gift.
In the Giza Pyramids area, President Oligui visited the Great Pyramid, where he ascended to the second chamber. He was awestruck by the massive stones and the remarkable engineering of the pyramid. He also listened to an in-depth explanation from Mr. Ashraf Mohy El-Din, Director General of Giza Antiquities, about the history of the Great Pyramid, the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, as well as the important discoveries made inside the pyramid in recent years. The tour continued at the Sphinx, where the president was briefed on the statue's construction, the restoration work done on it, and the ongoing groundwater lowering project beneath it. To conclude the visit, President Oligui and his delegation took commemorative photographs at the site, expressing their desire to return for another visit in the future.
