Leaders of G7 countries have renewed their commitment to the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a statement issued following a virtual meeting held on Wednesday.
The statement reads that the G7 remain committed to the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of a two-state solution that enables Israelis and Palestinians to live in a just, enduring, and secure peace.
This statement comes as Israel continues its operations in Gaza, a situation that has made the prospects of any peace agreement between the two parties seem distant at present.
The Israeli ground offensive began on October 27th against Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, but the Israeli military expanded its operations to include the entire territory after about two months into the conflict.
The war was preceded by a surprise attack by Hamas inside Israel on October 7th last year.
In Israel, 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attack, the majority of them civilians, according to Israeli authorities. Eighty-three soldiers were killed in the battles in Gaza.
Since the start of the war, 16,248 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, with over 70% of them being women and children, according to Hamas authorities.
