President Abdel Fattah El Sisi gave a speech during the Egyptian Women’s Day and Ideal Mother celebration held today, Wednesday, at Al-Manara Conference Hall in the fifth settlement in eastern Cairo.
Here is the full readout of the speech of President Sisi:
“In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful”
The great people of Egypt,
The great women of Egypt,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to commence my speech today by extending my sincere greetings and appreciation to the great Egyptian women, the creators of the homeland’s glory, the robust foundation of its construction and renaissance, and the source of hope in adversity and hardships. May you always be the pride of the homeland and the source of its strength.
Allow me, as we celebrate the great women of Egypt, to call upon you all to make this day and everyday a chance to express gratitude and acknowledgment for the Egyptian women in appreciation of their great role and valuable sacrifices.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me pleasure and pride to join you today in our annual celebration of the great Egyptian women. I am extremely pleased to be amongst this special elite of great women of Egypt in various fields. I would like to confirm that I personally value this celebration, which has become a dear tradition that I consider a medal of honor from the state to all Egyptian women to show but a portion of respect for their noble role as a partner in struggle, success, construction and work.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Egyptian women were and still are, the supporters and backers of their homeland. It is not an exaggeration to say that the power of the Egyptian women has created the glory of this homeland; they are the symbol of giving, dedication and pure sacrifice; they are the secret of life. I proclaim it clearly:
My predisposition towards championing Egyptian women is rooted in the complete conviction and true belief that respecting, valuing, empowering, and protecting women is both a national duty and a political commitment; not a gift or a grant, but rather a basic right that we all must embrace as a way of life. Without that, no desired success can be achieved.
More than ever, Egyptian women are invited to make serious and constructive contributions in the next phase in our New Republic, which is witnessing numerous mega-national projects in our modern history that primarily target investing in people.
Just as Egyptian women played the biggest national role in preserving the identity of the nation during the June 30 revolution and in making the economic reform efforts a success, in addition to their role during the coronavirus pandemic. I rely on their strength, awareness, and wisdom to make the National Project for Development of the Egyptian Family a success, which aims to improve the quality of life of citizens and society as a whole.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Since I assumed the responsibility of this country, I have pledged myself to ensure that Egyptian women claim the prominent status they deserve. I vow and promise to exert my utmost efforts to continue the journey of supporting, empowering and protecting Egyptian women, acknowledging their active role in building society and enduring its burdens and concerns.
To complement the process of supporting and empowering Egyptian women, I direct the Egyptian government to take legislative and legal reforms to include:
-Determining a supportive framework to empower women in the labor market and stimulating governmental and institutional excellence in this field.
-Supporting women to join future jobs by raising their awareness of the importance and advantages of joining the fields of engineering, science and applicable technology and creating learning and training opportunities in these areas for girls in different academic levels.
-Confronting all types of harassment, violence, annoyance, exploitation and abuse of authority in the workplace.
-Protecting against physical assault within the family, to protect the status and dignity of women and girls.
-Expediting the process of allocating appropriate buildings to effectuate mechanisms and workflow in units for the protection of women from violence.
-Introducing further amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code with regard to witnesses and those reporting crimes of harassment, violence, indecent assault and moral corruption, while introducing a special penalty in the event of disclosing confidential data and information related to such crimes.
-Increasing the penalty for not registering births.
-The Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Manpower shall expand centers for working women nationwide to provide them with services that facilitate their lives and organize their time between family commitments and their economic and social life.
-The Ministries of Justice, Manpower, and Social Solidarity, and the Central Agency for Organization and Administration shall amend the civil service law to grant adoptive mothers a four-month paid family care leave in the case of taking in infants under 6 months old.
-Single mothers, elderly women, women with disabilities, and women residing in border governorates shall be included within the social safety nets.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Still, Egyptian women give a lot and deserve a lot; they are the source of the nation’s power and strength. I am fully confident that they will continue their giving and dedication, devoid of any self-interest. They will also exert efforts as active citizens, who love their country.
The great women of Egypt,
Many happy returns…
May progress and prosperity prevail in our dear Egypt always and forever.
Long live Egypt … Long live Egypt ... Long live Egypt
May Peace and Mercy of Allah Be Upon You
