Kamel Ajjour, a bakery proprietor from Gaza, has issued a warning regarding a looming famine in northern Gaza, as the ongoing Israeli blockade has compelled five out of six operational bakeries in the region to cease operations, according to the Palestinian Information Centre.

Ajjour stated, "Five out of six bakeries in northern Gaza have ceased operations due to Israel’s blockade on the importation of fuel and essential raw materials required for bread production."

He further noted, "Our bakery remains the sole establishment still in operation in the area, but it is at risk of closing within a week if the blockade on fuel and vital supplies persists."

Ajjour highlighted that there has been no fuel delivery to bakeries in northern Gaza for the past ten days, adding that "the availability of crucial ingredients such as flour, sugar, and yeast has been drastically diminished for nearly a month."

He underscored that the closure of his bakery would precipitate a significant crisis.

Ajjour has called upon international organizations, including the United Nations, to take immediate action to avert a famine in northern Gaza and to facilitate the prompt delivery of fuel and essential materials necessary for sustaining bread production in the region.
