French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordanian King Abdullah II have expressed their deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East.
They emphasized the need to avoid military escalation, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint and responsibility to ensure the security of the region's populations.
During a phone call on Sunday between the French president and the Jordanian king, Macron reaffirmed his country's commitment to contributing diplomatically to de-escalation, particularly along the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel, where France is present within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, supporting Lebanon's stability, according to a statement from the French presidency.
The two leaders agreed that the regional situation has made ending the war in Gaza more urgent. In light of the risk of regional destabilization and the unacceptable scale of human losses, reaching a ceasefire agreement has become more critical than ever to allow for the release of all hostages, including French citizens, and to end the suffering of Gaza's residents and the immense tragedy they are experiencing, as well as to deliver humanitarian aid to them.
