French police arrested 994 people across the country during riots that continued for the fourth consecutive night over the fall of a teenager by police bullets, the Interior Ministry announced Saturday.
France deployed 45,000 police and gendarmes, backed by armored vehicles, to control the riots that erupted following the death of 17-year-old teenager Nael, who was shot by a policeman during a traffic check in a suburb of Paris on Tuesday.
Rioting raged in cities around France for a fourth night despite massive police deployment, with cars and buildings set ablaze and stores looted, as family and friends prepared Saturday to bury the 17-year-old whose killing by police unleashed the unrest.
