Pascal Confavreux, the spokesperson for the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, emphasized that President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Egypt is of "paramount importance."
He stated that the visit embodies the depth of the strategic partnership between the two nations and reflects Paris’s confidence in Cairo’s pivotal role in maintaining regional stability.
In an exclusive statement to the Middle East News Agency (MENA) this Saturday, on the occasion of the French President’s visit to Alexandria, Confavreux noted that Egypt performs a fundamental mission in managing the situation in the Middle East and pushing for de-escalation, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Moreover, he praised Egypt’s extensive efforts to reach a ceasefire and highlighted its position as a primary platform for delivering humanitarian and relief aid into the Strip.
He explained that President Macron’s visit to Alexandria includes talks with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as well as the inauguration of the new headquarters of Senghor University in Borg El Arab. This step reflects the growing cultural and educational dimension of bilateral relations, alongside the conduct of an in-depth political dialogue between the two sides.
Furthermore, he added that the visit is a continuation of the rising momentum in relations between Paris and Cairo, which has seen a significant boost since April 2025 with the launch of the Strategic Dialogue. This progress runs parallel to strengthening cooperation in priority sectors, notably economy, energy, and transport, with the support of the French Development Agency (AFD).
