France's radical left-wing party, La France Insoumise (France Unbowed), has called for the resignation of President Emmanuel Macron following a vote of no confidence against the government in the National Assembly.
Mathilde Panot, the head of the party's parliamentary group, urged Macron to step down and called for early presidential elections.
However, under the French constitution, a no-confidence vote targeting Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s government does not directly impact Macron’s presidency, which is set to continue until 2027.
The political crisis has deepened, prompting Macron to address the nation. He is scheduled to deliver a speech on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM GMT.
The announcement of his address was confirmed by his office, but no details have been provided regarding the potential appointment of a new prime minister.
