France's Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, issued a stern warning to US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday, urging respect for the European Union's sovereign borders.
The statement follows Trump’s controversial remarks about potentially acquiring Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark and an EU member state.
Trump has declined to rule out military or economic actions to secure control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, claiming their strategic importance for US economic security.
His son, Donald Trump Jr., arrived in Greenland on Tuesday, fueling speculation about the administration's intentions.
On his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump reiterated his vision, declaring Greenland vital to US interests and promising prosperity for its residents under American governance.
He also floated the possibility of imposing tariffs on Denmark should it resist US overtures.
