French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, issued a stirring plea to the international community on Wednesday, urging the world not to turn a blind eye to the escalating catastrophe in Sudan.

"Let us not forget Sudan," Barrot stated via X (formerly Twitter). "A part of our humanity is being defined there."

The World’s Worst Humanitarian Crisis

As the conflict enters its third year, Sudan has spiraled into what experts describe as the most severe humanitarian crisis on the planet. According to the Minister, the scale of suffering is unprecedented in the 21st century, with millions of civilians facing the dual threats of famine and extreme hunger.

The human toll of the war is staggering:

Mass Displacement: Millions have been forced to flee their homes to escape active combat zones.

Violence Against Women: Reports of widespread sexual violence and systematic abuses continue to emerge from the region.

Total Deprivation: In refugee camps where hundreds of thousands seek safety, there is a critical shortage of basic necessities, including food, medicine, and adequate shelter.

A Vision for the Future

Despite the grim reality on the ground, Minister Barrot emphasized that a "different future" is possible for Sudan. He credited the Sudanese people—specifically those who spearheaded the 2019 revolutionary movement—as the true architects of hope for the nation.

On the eve of the war’s anniversary, Barrot hosted Sudanese civil society representatives at the French Foreign Ministry to hear their demands firsthand. He pledged to amplify their voices during a high-level international conference co-chaired by France, Germany, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the African Union.

"The future of Sudan is in the hands of the Sudanese men and women who created hope seven years ago," Barrot concluded, reaffirming France's commitment to mobilizing global aid and diplomatic pressure to end the violence.
