France and the United Kingdom are set to hold a high-level conference in the coming days to discuss a potential multinational mission in the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising concerns over maritime security.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced the initiative on Monday via X, stating that the meeting will bring together countries willing to contribute to a peaceful multinational effort aimed at restoring freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.

The proposed mission is expected to be purely defensive and separate from ongoing conflicts in the region, with implementation depending on security conditions.

Macron indicated that around 12 countries have already expressed interest in joining the operation, reflecting growing international concern over disruptions in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.

French authorities have not yet confirmed which countries will attend the conference or announced a specific date.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital global chokepoint, with a large share of the world’s energy supplies passing through it, making stability in the region essential for global trade and energy security.
