France will bolster Cyprus’s defense capabilities by deploying missile systems, anti-drone units, and a frigate, the Cypriot News Agency (CNA) reports, in response to growing security concerns in the eastern Mediterranean.

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides received confirmation from French President Emmanuel Macron following two phone calls on Monday, during which Cyprus requested military support. The French deployment will initially include missile systems, anti-drone units, and a frigate, with a second frigate expected to follow shortly.

In parallel, Christodoulides also requested Germany to deploy a frigate, speaking with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who reportedly responded positively. An official announcement from Berlin is expected soon.

These measures reflect Cyprus’s efforts to strengthen national security as regional tensions rise, highlighting growing international involvement in the eastern Mediterranean security landscape.
