France has spent at least €1 billion on military operations in the Middle East over the past two months, following the escalation of conflict involving the US and Israel against Iran.

According to France Info, citing government sources, the costs include surveillance missions with Rafale fighter jets, naval deployments, and ammunition and aviation fuel. French armed forces have reportedly intensified operational activity across the region during the period.

The figures come amid rising international military spending linked to the conflict. Pentagon estimates place US operational costs related to the Iran war at around $25 billion. At the same time, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed the war has cost the US nearly $100 billion, disputing official figures from Washington.

The conflict began on 28 February when the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran, resulting in more than 3,000 reported deaths. A ceasefire was announced on 8 April between Washington and Tehran, though efforts to reach a lasting settlement have stalled.

A subsequent round of talks hosted in Pakistan on 11 April failed to produce an agreement, and the ceasefire was later extended at Islamabad’s request without a fixed timeline.
