French authorities are investigating whether an Israeli-linked company called “Black Core” was involved in a foreign influence campaign targeting candidates from the far-left La France Insoumise ahead of France’s municipal elections.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, French intelligence services are examining whether the company helped orchestrate online disinformation campaigns against candidates in Marseille, Toulouse, and Roubaix through fake websites, coordinated social media accounts, and defamatory online advertisements.
The company reportedly describes itself as a specialist in cyber influence and information warfare, although its ownership structure and official registration remain unclear.
Meta confirmed it removed networks linked to coordinated deceptive behavior originating from Israel and primarily targeting France. Sources also indicated that Google and TikTok independently detected parts of the operation.
French officials believe the campaign targeted several left-wing candidates, including Sébastien Delogu, François Piquemal, and David Guiraud.
The case has intensified concerns in France over foreign digital interference and political disinformation ahead of the country’s 2027 presidential election.
