France has expressed support for a European Parliament initiative calling for the suspension of the trade agreement between the European Union and the United States, reflecting rising economic and political tensions between the two sides.

French officials said Paris aligns with concerns raised by EU lawmakers over the future of transatlantic trade relations, as disagreements with Washington continue to intensify. The trade pact, long seen as a pillar of EU–US economic cooperation, is now under renewed scrutiny in Brussels.

European leaders have warned that strained relations could lead to significant economic repercussions. Discussions are reportedly underway regarding potential retaliatory measures, including increased tariffs and limits on American companies operating within European markets.

The dispute has been compounded by broader geopolitical disagreements, including issues linked to Greenland and trade policy positions taken by the United States. These developments have fueled concerns within the EU about Washington’s approach to transatlantic relations.

The European Parliament is expected to continue deliberations on whether to pause or suspend the agreement, a move that could reshape economic ties between the two long-standing allies.
