France has confirmed its first case of Ebola linked to the ongoing outbreak, marking the first recorded infection detected outside Africa during the current wave of the deadly virus.
The French Health Ministry said the patient, a doctor who recently arrived from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was swiftly transferred to hospital and placed in strict isolation following confirmation of the infection.
Health authorities have launched contact-tracing efforts to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the virus, with close contacts required to undergo a 21-day home quarantine as a precautionary measure.
French officials said all necessary containment measures were implemented immediately after the case was identified and stressed that the government is closely monitoring developments to prevent any further spread of the disease.
Ebola is a highly infectious viral illness that can cause severe hemorrhagic fever and has been responsible for multiple outbreaks across Africa in recent decades. The current case represents the first known detection of the ongoing outbreak beyond the African continent.
