France has condemned the assassination of a World Food Programme (WFP) employee in Yemen, affirming that any harm done to humanitarian workers constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law.
In a press statement on Sunday, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed France's sincere condolences to the victim's family and the World Food Programme, praising the exceptional work they carry out in Yemen.
France emphasized the need to protect humanitarian workers, urging the Yemeni authorities to shed light on this crime. There can be no impunity for the crimes committed against those working in the humanitarian field.
Yesterday, Friday, a WFP employee was killed in Taiz Governorate in southwestern Yemen, as announced by the organization and Yemen's Health Minister, Qasim Bahibh.
The Yemeni Health Minister wrote in a tweet that it was a "heinous criminal attack targeting one of the humanitarian workers of the World Food Programme in the city of Taiz," and the victim was identified as the Jordanian national, Muayyad Hamedy.
