France has stressed the importance of providing full support to the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement that brought an end to the fighting in Gaza, describing it as a “historic milestone” and a crucial step toward lasting peace in the Middle East.

Pascal Confavreux, spokesperson for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Paris attaches great importance to ensuring the implementation of the commitments reached following the ceasefire, which was brokered in the Egyptian resort city earlier this week.

“Several nations have gathered from day one to ensure the success of the plan,” Confavreux told Alqahera News, emphasizing that France’s efforts are focused on reconstruction and establishing principles of good governance in Gaza to transform the truce into a foundation for sustainable peace.

He noted that the French Foreign Ministry is particularly attentive to the future governance of Gaza, saying:

“France, in coordination with the UN Security Council, is working to help create a balanced and effective administrative framework for the Strip — one capable of providing stability and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.”

Confavreux described the ceasefire signing as “a rare and historic event,” marking a qualitative shift from previous rounds of negotiations. He said the next phase requires “a strong push to maintain the momentum” and outlined ongoing talks on the formation of an interim governing body in Gaza and the participation of several countries — including Egypt, Jordan, and others — in securing the area.

He reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian government, paving the way for reconstruction and lasting stability.

“France has already recognized the State of Palestine,” he added, “and continues to work tirelessly toward a comprehensive and just solution with Israel — one that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and strengthens the prospects for peace across the Middle East.”
