France is set to strengthen its air force with the acquisition of approximately 30 additional Rafale fighter jets as part of President Emmanuel Macron’s broader strategy to boost defense spending.

The announcement was made by Dassault Aviation CEO Éric Trappier, according to a report by Bloomberg on Friday.

Speaking to Europe 1 radio, Trappier stated that while Macron did not specify an exact figure, the number could amount to nearly two squadrons, translating to around 30 aircraft.

This procurement aligns with France’s plan to accelerate its nuclear deterrence modernization efforts.

Earlier this week, Macron confirmed that France would ramp up its military aircraft purchases and expedite their deployment to reinforce national security.

The move comes as European nations intensify defense investments, allocating hundreds of billions of euros to counter potential threats, particularly amid concerns over a reduced US military presence in Europe and the growing specter of Russian aggression.

The Rafale, a multirole fighter jet developed by Dassault Aviation, has gained international recognition for its advanced combat capabilities.

France’s latest order reflects a broader trend of European nations increasing their defense expenditures following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

France has been actively modernizing its military under Macron’s administration, with a particular focus on air power and nuclear deterrence.

In recent years, Dassault Aviation has secured multiple international contracts for the Rafale, with countries like India, Egypt, and the UAE purchasing the aircraft to bolster their own air forces.

The expected order underscores France’s commitment to maintaining a cutting-edge military force, ensuring operational readiness amid shifting global security dynamics.
