French President Emmanuel Macron announced, Friday, that France will host a "humanitarian conference" to call for a humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip and protection for civilians.
Macron highlighted that the conference would take place on November 9.
The French president added the conference would be held “on the margins” of the Paris Peace Forum, which will take place next week.
Macron told reporters: “We are calling for a truce because the fight against terrorism does not justify sacrificing civilians."
Macron’s announcement shortly came after the proposal of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for a peace conference to resolve the escalations in Gaza.
In the same context, the French foreign ministry said that it asked Israel for explanations after an Israeli strike hit a building of the French Institute in the Gaza Strip.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “We have asked the Israeli authorities to communicate without delay … the tangible elements which motivated this decision,” adding that no employees or French citizens were present in the building at the time of the strike.
