France has temporarily allowed US military aircraft to operate from French bases in the Middle East amid the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran, the French armed forces said Thursday.
A spokesperson for the French Armed Forces General Staff confirmed that the decision was made within the framework of defense cooperation between Paris and Washington.
The spokesperson said the US aircraft presence at French facilities is temporary and aims to help protect partners in the Gulf region as tensions continue to escalate.
The announcement comes as President Emmanuel Macron ordered the deployment of major French military assets earlier this week.
The deployment includes the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle along with accompanying naval vessels and air capabilities in the western Mediterranean Sea.
