The Lebanese National News Agency reported that four paramedics were killed during a relief mission in the town of Mefdoun in southern Lebanon, just one day after direct talks between Lebanon and Israel in Washington.
The incident highlights a clear gap between the political process and de-escalation efforts on one hand, and the ongoing escalation on the ground on the other. The talks have so far failed to halt the repercussions of the operations on the ground.
The paramedics' deaths underscore the growing dangers faced by humanitarian teams in southern Lebanon amidst the continued clashes, raising questions about the effectiveness of the negotiation process without a genuine ceasefire.
