Former president of Zamalek Sports Club, Mortada Mansour,  has been sentenced to six months of immediate imprisonment and fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds.

The judgment comes in light of accusations that between April 10 and December 14, 2021, Mansour, with ill intent, defamed Lamiaa Khairy, General Manager at the Central Auditing Organization, for performing her official duties.

Through his online platforms, Mansour attributed multiple deeds to Khairy that, if proven true, could subject her to penalty and disgrace among her compatriots.

Moreover, according to the court's description, he insulted Khairy due to her professional role in using language that damages her reputation. He deliberately harassed her by misusing communication devices.

Given that today's ruling stems from an appellate court under the statutes of the Criminal Procedures Law, it is immediately enforceable upon its issuance. While Mansour holds the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Cassation within 60 days, such an appeal will not halt the enforcement of the prison sentence.

The convicted Mansour is now obliged to surrender to the authorities for the execution of the sentence. If he fails to do so, the police are mandated to arrest and incarcerate him in a public prison to serve his term.
